Oh dear. 2010 is almost over!! And no time at all spent on my blog!!
But I've been browsing yours, and am inspired to make a come back!
In the meantime, here's what I've been up to this year!

Started off the New Year with a bang! And great friends!
Dinner and drinks at the amazing Sauced

Was a bloody cheerleader in Gonzoriffics
film Doll Face!

Started making pottery with my dear friends at Atlanta Clay

Had an amazing Florida-themed bday party in my backyard.

Threw together with one of my besties Kiki, a three day erotic film fest! CinErotic

Then there was a trip to Detroit for the 2010 US Social Forum

Fun times in NYC where I was able to attend the Maker Faire

And of course, lots of good food, good friends, vintage finds, times in the sun, laughs and hugs.

just got confirmation from a friend at the CDC that this so-called "Swine Flu" is really what we have all been preparing for!
Get ready for the zombie apocolypse!!

Seriously, don't those maps showing where the outbreak is look a lot like a map of a zombie outbreak ?

Its happening just as we were warned....
- large cities happening first
-third world country - Mexico
-goverment cover-up to quell public hystaria (its just a "flu")
-blaming those poor cute piggies!

So time to get your kit together

A Gay and Lesbian marching band, The Lesbian and Gay Band Association, has been chosen to be in the inaugural parade.Obama said at the beginning of the planning for the inauguration, "I am honored to invite these talented groups and individuals to participate in the Inaugural Parade. These organizations embody the best of our nation's history, diversity and commitment to service."

The theme for President-elect Barack Obama’s inauguration is "A New Birth Of Freedom."

Freedom? Really. What an interesting theme considering when it comes to the delivery of the invocation (what’s up separation of church and state?), Obama has chosen a Californian preacher who brings over 20,000 parishioners to his church each Sunday while he diligently and passionately advocates against the rights of LGBTQ folks AND women. Reverend Rick Warren has compared Gay marriage to incest, rape, and pedophilia. He is also anti-choice, believing in banning the right of women to choose.

Fan-f-ing-tastic!

In response to Proposition 8 in California, Warren asked why should the definition of marriage be changed just for 2% of the population.

2%? Hmmm, I think it’s a bit more then that, and all the non-queer folks who also agree with gay marriage and then those who just don’t care. He also states that he can not be deemed as homophobic because of all the work he and his church have done for AIDS/HIV relief. IMHO this statement in itself is a homophobic one, AIDS is no longer just the “gay disease.”

So much for the new birth of freedom.

Some argue that this is Obama's plan to help reach out to the evangelical population, but as A.Serwer states, “Obama isn't a homophobe, but you gotta wonder how long the LGBTQ community has to wait before they get a president who thinks homophobia is unacceptable.”

Agreed.

XMAS WTF?

I work in a place that says they respect the diversity of people and their cultures, ethnicities, religions, etc. And it's a place that should as we cater to a large variety of folks and maintain that they should respect each other as well.

But every year at this time I get mad as hell. When the Xmas decorations start going up, the christmas music playing in the halls, and there is a freakin tree around every corner.

I understand the need for stores to engage in the "holiday spirit" as I am sure it increases their sales. And even restaurants to have a "holiday special," sure. But why does a school need to have mistletoe and holy on every piece of trim and Bing Crosby crooning out of the MACs in the computer lab?

There are at least 3 other holidays celebrated by various cultures in December, and I'm sure dozens more. Why do I have to smell fake pine every time I pass the student lounge?

What’s even more frustrating is the fact that they don't even see what the problem is! I think if you are going to "celebrate" one holiday, you better celebrate them all, or decorate for none at all. Diversity training is much needed in December!

And I'm not a total scrooge, I do some winter decorations in my home, but it's my home, not a public place that cultivates the education of students. Students from diverse backgrounds. Even some students who (shocking!) don’t celebrate xmas.

If someone suggests secret santa I am going straight to HR.

In a crafty online group I am in, someone mentioned a neckwarmer/cowl that was created as a Mobius strip. What is this "Mobius" I wondered, so I searched where all the answers are, Wikipedia.

According to wikipedia (and yes this is just my blog and not a scholarly journal so I am not bound to credible sources) a Mobius Strip was one of those things we made in math class a long long time ago, apparently "a surface with only one side and only one boundary component. It has the mathematical property of being non-orientable." WTF?

Basically, if you take a rectangular strip of paper, twist it, and tape the ends together you've got your own Mobius Strip. Also, very interestingly, it was only discovered in 1858.

Which is why we did not have recycling prior to that:

1970s Suburban Thanksgiving

I love a themed thanksgiving.

Two years ago I did a 1956 themed thanksgiving and it was fabulous.

This year, my Cupcake friend and I are doing a 1970s-Suburban themed Thanksgiving.

Yes, its pretty specific. And the inspiration for it was the Ang Lee film, The Ice Storm.

Think lots of brown, lots of corduroy, lots of casseroles and lots of stiff drinks.

This is not disco 70s, but the suburban 70s. An era of swingers and key-parties.

College-educated bored, bitter housewives with an eye on the pool boy (or each other).

Fondue!

So everyone is asked to bring a casserole. I will be wearing a vintage 70s dress with boots and seventies straight straight hair (I should probably iron it to be really authentic).

I've been scavenging thrift stores for 70s finds. Yesterday, I found yellow, orange and brown crocheted placemats and some books on marriage from the 70s, "How To Have a Happy Husband" and "Finding Intimacy Together!" I'll be sure to recomend them to my dinner guests!

A friend is lending me A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.

So pictures I'm sure next week.

What am I currently engaged with? Lots, as usual.

Last night specifically:

Home

Painting my front door and back door. I have a dark blue to match my shutters. While doing this I forgot that I also have a side door that I need to paint as well. Oops!

Cooking

Last night made an asian-inspired soup with vegetables and also made tofu and shrimp basil rolls. YUM
It is my goal this winter to make a different kind of soup each week.
I also went to the Dekalb Farmers Market after work and it was amazing as usual

Garden/Plants

Repotted an orchid which was a gift. My dinning room is really starting to look like a greenhouse.
Looked up how to seperate and repot an overgrown orchid I have from my parents house in Miami.

Then watched The Office.
Why oh why is it always sooo good?? ("thats what she said")
